In the fall of 2017, the Northern Alaska Environmental Center approached me to be named the 2017/2018 NAEC's Artist of the Year. The Northern Alaska Environmental Center is an Alaska-based conservation organization dedicated to protecting the land, waters and wildlife of Interior and Arctic Alaska for current and future generations to use and enjoy. Together we agreed the caribou represented the uniqueness of the arctic, a species so important to the people of the Fairbanks community. "First Snow" was creating in the following 4 weeks, and raised $800 at auction for the original, and another $600 selling as a limited print edition, with proceeds going directly to the NAEC.
